Paul Marushka

President and CEO

As Sphera’s founding president and CEO, Paul Marushka is responsible for providing overall strategic leadership for the company in developing, directing and implementing go-to-market, service, product and operational plans.

Paul has grown businesses by bringing innovative solutions to market in leveraging software, analytics and technology services. Prior to joining Sphera, Paul served as president of Marsh ClearSight, a business unit of Marsh & McLennan and a leading provider of software, services and analytics for enterprise risk management, safety and compliance management and claims administration. Paul also has held executive positions at software and data companies such as Fair Isaac Corp. (FICO) and CCC Information Services.

During his career, Paul has developed and launched a variety of software and analytics products recognized by the Gartner Group for their impact on the industry. He has authored numerous articles in publications like the United Nations Global Yearbook on the use of analytics and technology in decision-making. He has spoken in a variety of forums including the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, the Gartner Technology Summit, the Environmental Leader Conference and the Risk and Insurance Management Society.

At the Environmental Leader & Energy Manager Conference (ELEMCON), Paul was recognized as an Environmental Leader for breaking new ground in creating new solutions, programs, platforms and products to help companies achieve greater success in environmental management.

Paul has a JD from the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and an AB from the College at the University of Chicago.

Paul is a board member of the Hyde Park Institute at the University of Chicago, which sponsors research and programs that advance the study and teaching of moral philosophical thinking with a focus on integrating intellectual, professional and moral development.

In his free time, Paul enjoys traveling with his family, specifically finding locations at which to race all-terrain vehicles (ATVs).

Michael Cochran

Chief Revenue Officer

As chief revenue officer, Mike leads a global team that is responsible for all aspects of revenue generation including enterprise sales, inside sales, account management, solution engineering, partnerships and sales operations.

Mike brings 20-plus years of experience in sales, consulting and account management to Sphera. Throughout his career, Mike has led teams focused on selling software applications, cloud technologies, SaaS, consulting engagements, customer experience, analytics and program management solutions. His experience ranges across all industry verticals, and he has focused on leveraging a consultative approach to drive customer intimacy to deliver solutions that solve the client’s needs and exceed their expectations.

Prior to his current position, Mike was a managing director at EY as the Technology growth leader within the Banking and Capital Markets vertical. Mike has also held a variety of leadership roles running sales, account management and delivery functions at Marsh & McLennan, Mattersight and eLoyalty to name a few.

Mike received his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business with concentrations in Finance, Strategy & Statistics and his Bachelor’s degree in Applied Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics from Illinois State University.

Laura Hanson

Chief Human Resources Officer

Laura brings 25 years of human resource experience in technology, engineering and professional service firms. Prior to joining Sphera, Laura served as director of talent management for Huron, a global firm providing strategy, technology and analytic consulting and technology services.

Prior to Huron, Laura held senior HR roles in technology companies such as CCC, Cyborg Systems and Videojet. Laura earned a B.S. in Psychology from the University of San Diego and an M.A. in HR from Loyola University.

Bob Hogue

Chief Financial Officer

Bob brings 25 years of experience leading high growth technology and service businesses. Prior to joining Sphera, Bob was the chief financial officer of VeriClaim Inc. since 2007. Prior to joining VeriClaim, Bob served in CFO and high-profile roles at several high-growth technology and services businesses including: Platinum Technology, Netigy Corp., CoAMs Inc. and Infogix.

Bob holds a B.A. in Finance and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Illinois, and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and is a CPA in the state of Illinois.

In his free time, Bob enjoys traveling, hiking, kayaking and scuba diving with his family.

Mike Zamis

Chief Product Officer

As chief product officer, Mike Zamis leads all product management, marketing and Sphera's U.S. Government business. Mike is responsible for the strategy and development of Sphera’s next-generation of Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHS&S), Operational Risk Management and Product Stewardship software offerings. He has over 15 years of experience managing large product teams delivering software products across a wide variety of industries.

Prior to his current position, Mike was vice president, product management, for CCC Information Services Inc. and was focused on the company’s Auto Physical Damage solutions for both the insurance and automotive markets. Mike has also held a variety of positions in technical account management, product management and program management in the mobile devices business of Motorola Inc. Before Motorola, he worked at a project management consulting firm and, prior to that, he spent 10 years with a subsidiary of Duke Power engaged in selling and delivering engineering consulting services to the nuclear power industry.

Mike holds a Master’s of Business Administration degree with concentrations in finance and strategy from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business and a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He was also a registered Professional Engineer in Illinois.

Outside of work, Mike is an avid fly fisherman, scuba diver, traveler, and likes to combine the three whenever possible.

Dave Schur

Chief Technology Officer

As Sphera’s chief technology officer, Dave Schur leads the technology and innovation teams to deliver and operate our world-class Software as a Service-based offerings in SpheraCloud. In his role, Dave has responsibility is responsible for Sphera product development, architecture, IT operations & infrastructure, business applications, data science and R&D.

Dave is a proven engineering executive who brings more than 25 years of experience in defining, developing and executing large-scale cloud SaaS offerings. Prior to joining Sphera, Dave was the vice president of product development for CCC Information Services, a software and services claims management company, where he drove the development and deployment of their insurance-carrier offerings since 2013.

Prior to CCC, Dave ran the flagship product lines for SPSS, a data statistics software company, launching the enterprise Predictive Analytics offerings and integrating their technologies via acquisition into IBM.

Dave holds a B.S. in Computer and Electrical Engineering from Purdue University.

In his free time, Dave enjoys being outdoors whenever he can, whether it’s —hiking, biking, windsurfing, kayaking, boating or fishing.

Mark Stach

Chief Services Officer

As Sphera’s chief services officer, Mark Stach leads the Services team and is also responsible for corporate development and strategy and Operational Excellence in the execution of our strategy. In his role, Mark coordinates our Operations Leadership Team in the pursuit of continuous improvement.

Mark is a multifunction, C-suite strategic growth leader with over 25 years of experience in professional, marketing and technology services (SaaS) predominately serving the risk management, insurance and benefits administration spaces. Prior to joining Sphera, Mark provided C-suite management consulting to these industries and also held executive positions as general manager for Crain’s Business Insurance and chief operating officer/chief financial officer for Aon Hewitt’s global consulting business.

Mark holds an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a B.A. in Economics from Northwestern University.
