Joining the Science Based Targets initiative demonstrates Sphera’s dedication to mitigating climate risks using climate science

CHICAGO, IL (March 12, 2021) – Sphera, a leading global provider of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance and risk management software, data and consulting services, has signed the commitment letter for the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and will begin the process of defining new targets to reduce the organization’s climate impact.

The SBTi calls on companies to demonstrate their climate leadership by publicly committing to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions with science-based targets. A target is considered science-based if it is in line with the level of decarbonization required to keep the global temperature increase below 1.5°C (2.7°F) compared with preindustrial levels.

“Committing to the Science Based Targets initiative was a natural step for Sphera in our mission to create a safer, more sustainable and productive world,” said Paul Marushka, Sphera’s president and CEO. “We recognize the crucial role the business community can play in minimizing the risk climate change poses to the future of our planet. We are proud to support customers on their low carbon journey, and we are proud to establish targets that reduce our own climate impact.”

As a sustainability solutions provider, Sphera helps companies develop robust science-based decarbonization strategies, including: developing a sustainability roadmap that is aligned with business goals; identifying the baseline and tracking progress with advanced reporting tools and expert knowledge; supporting the entire science-based target setting process; defining ambitious and measurable Scope 3 targets; and providing insights into the company’s value chain impacts.

Sphera’s SBTi commitment is part of its larger sustainability program to understand, measure and positively affect Sphera’s sustainability footprint—including greenhouse gas emissions—by using the organization’s own Product and Corporate Sustainability data and solutions to make better business decisions.

Sphera’s Product Sustainability solutions combine the world’s leading Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) modeling and reporting software with reliable and consistent environmental data. The data analytics and reporting tools enable organizations to understand environmental impacts throughout the product and process life cycle, identify hotspots and make fact-based decisions to improve sustainability.

Sphera’s Corporate Sustainability solution enables professional sustainability reporting and advanced performance management. With automated data collection, powerful reporting tools, advanced planning features as well as the most comprehensive source of sustainability data available globally, it makes disclosure and performance management efficient, precise and easy.

“Sphera’s integrated offering of software, data and consulting services makes Sphera a one-stop-shop for achieving all ESG goals wherever your organization is on its sustainability journey,” added Marushka. “We celebrate our customers’ sustainability target achievements, and we look forward to communicating our own.”
