Featured session

Quantitative analysis of differences and related reasons concerning “seemingly” same LCA Datasets from different sources, origin and providers.

Thursday, November 12, 2026 | 2:45–3:00 p.m. JST
Session 2-3A: Databases: Advances in LCA Databases

Speaker:

Dr. Martin Baitz, Senior Sustainability Expert

Two datasets may describe what appears to be the same process yet return different climate impact results. In this presentation, Martin Baitz will compare seemingly comparable LCA datasets, quantify differences in COâ‚‚ equivalent results and trace those differences to their underlying causes.

The analysis will examine how data development processes, source selection, data age, technology, modeling assumptions and methodological choices shape outcomes.

What you’ll learn

  • Why apparently similar datasets can yield different COâ‚‚ equivalent results.
  • How data sources, process detail, update cycles and modeling assumptions influence comparability.
  • Which documentation, review and change history to examine when judging whether data fits a study.
