Individually selected by the European Commission to create these guidelines, the independent authors (who are not directly affiliated with the European Commission) have had the purpose, not to revise, criticize or replace existing LCA studies for Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU), but to give guidelines beyond (and based on) the EN ISO 14040 and EN ISO 14044 standards, departing from the standards and existing state-of-the-art knowledge in LCA to address points that are particularly relevant and critical for CCU.

In doing so, the objective of the report is to identify and highlight the most relevant and important topics when applying LCA to CCU technologies and to provide guidance to companies on how to address these topics.
