Climate change is one of the biggest threats to our planet, impacting businesses, governments, and society as a whole. For this reason, countries and jurisdictions such as the UK, New Zealand and the EU have already started to incorporate the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) into corporate reporting requirements and laws. Climate change disclosure rules recently announced by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) are also based on the « four pillar » disclosure framework developed by the TCFD.

Global alignment with the TCFD reporting framework will streamline ESG efforts of investors and companies, giving them transparent and comparable insight into the economic impacts of climate change. As a result, this will help to further steer investment flows towards sustainable, climate-resilient business models and technologies.

However, the lack of unified ESG metrics, diversified and incomplete corporate ESG data, and uneven coverage of reporting requirements across sectors and geographies hinder the fast implementation of climate disclosure into corporate reporting frameworks.
