CHICAGO, IL, (June 17, 2020) – Imperial Homes Corp., the first and only Property Technology (PropTech) Developer in the Philippines, today announced it has EDGE certified its various residential properties that include Tiarra, its proprietary solar-powered house model design.
Imperial Homes is the only developer in the Philippines that has successfully integrated solar energy and green technology at community levels. The solar technology reduces overall electricity cost while the ultra-high-performance concrete technology incorporated into its design makes the community resilient and healthy as it prevents the growth of bacteria and viruses. The properties were certified through EDGE global certifier Sphera-SGS, marking the first project of Imperial Homes’ green portfolio.
In 2019, Imperial Homes committed to certifying all its new construction projects using EDGE. That amounts to 2,267 residential units that are set to be constructed over the next three years. This is a ground-breaking commitment in the Philippines and shows the company’s pledge to sustainable innovation. EDGE certification allows Imperial Homes to further promote green technologies to other developers, not only in the Philippines but also across Asia. Imperial Homes believes that everyone has to switch to sustainable building solutions in order to mitigate climate change.
“Imperial Homes aims to continuously lead in promoting EDGE in our country and the rest of the world through our solar-powered resilient communities built with sustainable building technology. These affordable houses not only provide savings, but are also resilient to typhoons, earthquakes, fires and molds—making them healthy EDGE-certified homes,” said Emma M. Imperial, president and CEO of Imperial Homes Group of Companies.
An innovation of IFC, EDGE helps property developers build and brand green building in a fast, easy and affordable way. EDGE is supported by free software that encourages solutions to reduce energy, water and the energy used to make building materials by at least 20%, which is the standard for EDGE certification.
”We can no longer think in terms of one single green building or green home. We must think bigger than that if we are to truly advance the sustainability agenda,” says Thomas Saunders, EDGE program director at Sphera. “By committing to certifying its entire portfolio of buildings, Imperial Homes is taking its place among the leading sustainable companies in the world and proving that it is possible to build homes that are both affordable and green.”
By certifying the projects using EDGE, Imperial Homes will bring energy and water efficiency savings to the occupants of the homes. The Tiarra residential unit has been designed to save over 70% in energy and over 40% in water consumption versus typical homes built in the Philippines.
