In the course of every organization’s day-to-day operations, events may occur that disrupt business, cause harm to employees, damage the environment or have other negative impacts. Although some events will be uncontrollable, preventing avoidable incidents and effectively preparing for unavoidable ones is extremely important to the success of any business. It is an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) professional’s job to ensure that incident management is as effective, efficient, and as streamlined as possible to better prepare for incidents.
In order to minimize the risk of such incidents occurring and to improve outcomes when they do, it is critical that a system of accurate preparation, response and reporting is in place. However, many incident management systems are disorganized, inefficient and ineffective. This can lead to more incidents, more injuries and greater risk for the company as a whole.
