Sphera’s always on the lookout to bring in top talent, particularly in technology fields, and people are taking notice.
Sphera was recently featured in Crain’s Chicago Business magazine in an article explaining the company’s goal of “beefing up their local head count.”
Paul Marushka, Sphera’s president and CEO, told Crain’s that: “We have so much demand that we don’t have enough people,” and that’s especially true for Sphera’s headquarters in sweet-home Chicago.
The goal is to more than double the Chicago-based head count by the end of 2019 to 150 employees. To accommodate that growth, the Crain’s article broke the news that Sphera will be moving our headquarters to a much larger office space in the same building next year. The new office will be 25,000 square feet compared with our current 14,000-square-foot office; that’s about a 78 percent increase in office size.
Ever since Sphera was formed in 2016 when Genstar Capital acquired the Operational Excellence & Risk Management business of IHS Markit, Sphera has pursued a successful growth plan focused on our Platform, Innovation, Network (PIN) strategy to help our clients achieve Operational Excellence. That includes two acquisitions since 2017—Rivo Software and sparesFinder—that have helped Sphera accelerate the game-changing SpheraCloud platform to complement our host of on-premise software solutions in the Environmental Health & Safety space while increasing Sphera’s global presence.
“While big expansion plans from tech giants Google, Facebook and Salesforce cause the biggest waves and draw the most headlines,” according to the Crain’s article, “smaller leases from companies like Sphera have demonstrated the demand strength in the market.”
And that strength comes from the talented, knowledgeable and passionate people who are known as Spherions.
“The first thing I noticed when I started at Sphera was the people,” said TJ Huestis, Sphera’s senior manager of talent acquisition. “Spherions have a combination of warmth but also a distinct bias for action. The competition for talent in Chicago’s tech community is fierce, but we have a compelling value proposition. Between the virtues of how our products help companies, our people and our startup vibe, we have a lot to offer the right candidates.”
Many candidates are drawn to Sphera’s core message, which is to help our clients keep their workers safe, their products sustainable and their operations productive. The Sphera Careers page adds that: “The best people don’t want a job, they want to change the world–and themselves. The best want to challenge the status quo. The best want to grow themselves and their careers.”
They also want to work “in a culture that is collaborative, innovative, customer-centric, insightful and results-focused.”
“At Sphera, we are not just a technology company but one committed to making the world safer, more sustainable and productive,” said Laura Hanson, Sphera’s chief human resources officer. “We serve some of the biggest companies who instill safety and social responsibility as their mission. This is our mission, too. If you want to make a difference in the world and people’s lives, consider joining our team.”
